Pumsavana is one of the sixteen rituals known as Shodasha Samsakaras which are adopted at every stage of life to ensure a fruitful and prosperous life. This procedure can be done before conception or immediately after conception for achieving a healthy progeny during Pushya Nakshatra. Pumsavana Karma aims mainly at Garbha Dharana and Garbha Sthereekarana. The methods prescribed for pre-conception, Pumsavana should be brought into practice for a planned pregnancy to get a healthy child and making the couple's well prepared physically, psychologically, socially and emotionally for future events. Hence the article deals with the principles and practice of Pumsavana Karma in detail.
